Dust, Grit, and 500km of Glory: Prepping for The Traka
The dust hasn't even settled yet, but the energy is still electric! If you’ve been following the La Fuga team, you know we’ve been gearing up for one of the most brutal, beautiful, and prestigious gravel events on the calendar: The Traka.
Covering 500km of Girona’s finest (and roughest) gravel isn't just a bike ride; it’s a voyage. When you're staring down a distance that long, the race isn't won on the day—it’s won in the seven days leading up to it.
Here is how the La Fuga crew handles the "Final Countdown" to ensure we’re ready to fly when the gravel starts crunching.
The 7-Day Countdown: Tapering for Success
The goal of the final week is simple: Arrive fresh, not rusty. You can’t gain fitness in the last week, but you can definitely lose it by overtraining.
The 7-Day Countdown: Tapering for Success
Mechanical Peace of Mind
At 500km, a small mechanical issue at kilometer 50 becomes a disaster by kilometer 300. Our team checklist includes:
Fresh Rubber: Don't risk old tires. We’re running wide, supple tubeless setups with fresh sealant.
The "Silent" Drivetrain: A deep clean followed by a high-quality wax or heavy-duty ceramic lube. Silence is speed.
Bolt Check: Gravel vibrations are like a jackhammer. We torque every single bolt to spec.
Fueling the Beast
You cannot finish a 500k event on a "light breakfast." We treat nutrition like a logistical operation.
The 90g Rule: We aim for roughly 90g of carbohydrates per hour.
Liquid Energy: When the terrain gets technical, eating solid food is hard. We rely heavily on high-carb drink mixes.
Salt Management: Girona can get spicy. We front-load electrolytes to prevent the dreaded "cramp-quit."
The Mental Game: "Eat the Elephant"
500km is a terrifying number if you look at it all at once. The La Fuga strategy? Chunking.
"Don't race 500km. Race to the next feed station. Then the next one. Then the next hill."
The Traka is as much a test of your head as it is your hamstrings. We stay focused on the "now"—the gear we’re in, the line we’re picking, and the fuel we’re sipping.
